Mendoza

Mendoza is the capital of the province of Mendoza about 700 miles west northwest of Buenos Aires. 

Located at the foot of The Andes, Mendoza is the capital city of the province of Mendoza and the most important city of the West of Argentina. It is one of the most highly preferred tourist destinations because of the various and interesting scenery and activities available in the region.  It is renowned for its fruits and vegetables the climate of the region is mild though the mountains provide a certain degree of aridity. The temperature in Summer ranges from 18º C to 33º C and days are hot and nights are fresh. In Winter, the minimum temperature is 3º C and the maximum registered temperature is 16º C.

Besides wine tasting, scenic sights and festivals, Mendoza provides year-round sport:

  • Skiing, of course, at Los Penitentes, Los Molles and Las Leñas
  • White Water Rafting and Kayaking on the very fast Río Mendoza

The city, like most cities in Argentina, has a vibrant outdoor cafe society, tree-lined walkable streets & avenues and many plazas attesting to the city's European heritage.  A web of irrigation ditches over 500 km long provides water for the whole area.

This is the starting point for adventure travel and high mountain sports such as skiing, snowboarding or rafting.

Argentina's wines are growing in popularity, and most of the vineyards and wine industry are located in Mendoza province, in the Cuyo region. The wine harvest festival, Vendimia, which falls on the first Saturday of March, actually begins in January in various locations around the province and then zeroes in on the city of Mendoza.

The "Ruta de los Vinos" (Route of the Wines) offers visits to ancient cellars and wine tastings. Visiting Mendoza means wine and sunshine.
